Decking the Halls and Christmasy Things

Since John left for China the Monday after Thanksgiving, we started Christmas a little earlier than normal this year.

We made our annual trek to chop down our Christmas tree, and this year we did it while leftover turkey was still fresh in the refrigerator.

Bennett made the most of his first year being mobile on the Christmas tree farm.  Boys love playing with sticks in a bunch of dirt, don't they?

Luckily no mothers or sons were harmed in taking this photo, despite the double-stick-fisting.

Everyone loves a good winter hat with animal ears.

John found our fated tree in about one minute, and I said "sure."  My personality ranges from caring too much about decisions to basically letting someone else choose.

John chose wisely and sawed our tree down in no time.

We went to the Christmas tree farm with friends, so Orelia spent most of her time there running around with her buddies and not hanging with her boring mom and dad.  Oh well.

The next day we were invited to an ice skating party, and Uncle Bobby was extremely eager to show off his skills.

It was Orelia's first time skating (either on ice or roller skates), and since she gripped her guardian's hands for dear life, she never actually fell to the ground.

She seemed to have a good time and loved trying something new.

Bennett and I stayed off the ice and hung out by the cozy fireplace a bit.

He was quite popular in his Santa hat.  He refuses to wear it at home, but somehow knew when it's most important to be adorable.

We decorated the tree the day before John left for China, and it was Orelia's first time helping.  It warmed my heard so much to see her asking about all of our family ornaments (every ornament on our tree has a history) and carefully placing each one in a 2-inch radius of the next.

Maybe next year Bennett will even be awake for the tree decorating.  I just hope he wears his santa hat.
